Billy Cobham

William C. Cobham is an outstanding drummer, musician and composer Panamanian-American jazz and jazz fusion.Born in Panama, May 16, 1944. In his childhood, he and his family moved to the city of New York (USA) where he attended high school High School of Music and ArtLater, his first experience as a drummer in a band was in the U.S. Army where he gained some fame. Later, he joined with artists such as pianist Horace Silver, the saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, Shirley Scott keyboardist and guitarist George Benson.

In the late 60's and early 70's, goes by the jazz fusion style, mixing elements like rock n 'roll, soul and funk. Cobham working with Randy and Michael Brecker brothers and guitarist John Abercrombie in the band Dreams, as well as with renowned trumpeter Miles Davis, with whom he established a very strong musical bond, and who could win fame by participating in the Live- wrong and in tribute to Jack Johnson. At that time, Cobham was earning a good reputation, mainly for its technical revolution, which mixed complexity, innovation and originality.Before his work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham recorded with guitarist John McLaughlin on the album My Goal's Beyond. Later, in 1971, Cobham founded with John McLaughlin's Mahavisnhu Orchestra, with which they toured from 1971 through 1973 and which recorded Cobhman two studio albums and one live.

In May 1973, he recorded his first solo album in which Spectrum makes a fusion of the best records ever, and in which he plays with artists like Jan Hammer (Mahavishnu Orchestra keyboardist) and guitarist Tommy Bolin ( guitarist who later became the British hard rock band Deep Purple). In the same year, before finishing a tour with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Cobham coolabora with guitarists Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin.Years later, he signed with the CTI Records, expanding its repertoire of jazz fusion. He also shares with artists such as Chick Corea, Jack Bruce, Clem Clempson, Dave Sancious, the young musicians of the band Havana Asher and others, mainly on tours and concerts.
